Dive Site info for

Loch Fyne, Argyll Caravan Park, nr Inverary, Argyll

First draft of a dive site chart of the caravan site-where we and a lot of other clubs do novice training.

We recently ran a couple of trips and used this site with great success. This site is part of the Argyll Caravan Park and is amongst moorings which can be busy during summer so take an SMB. Quebec Marine Services run a couple of compressors out of here and are helpful providing you don't turn up with 20 bottles unannounced. Contact numbers i have, which may be out of date, are 07774823001 and 07831855603. You have to pay reception for launching, pay for a ticket per car. If no-one at reception, pay QMS.

The caravan park and QMS are separate companies. The caravan park are strict so do not speed on-site, they are very keen that you motor slowly, both on the water and round the caravan site. They even have a sign up at reception saying the track round the caravan park is subject to Scottish Roadways rules and regulations. They're not afraid to ban you from the site.

The site has something for most training including Sports Diver, the shallows have plenty of life and lots of room, and it quickly slopes off to around 12m down a steep slope. There are plenty of moorings to use as datums, obviously these can change. Seabed is generally silty-be prepared to move around! Visibility can be very good if no other divers around. In less than 20m there are a couple of very easy and small wrecks, the Knotty Ash (a small yacht still covered in paint and with her name on the bow)-can be quite dark, a small speed boat, which can be found off the port-bow of the Knotty Ash, about 15m away and lying in about 12m near a mooring. There is also some junk down there, in the form of a caravan chassis and trailer, and allegedly a jeep (though i've never seen this).

There is a long and not very steep fairly well maintained slip way, it's very slippy near LW. It also drops off at extremely LW. If you have a capable vehicle, use the beach between the jetty and slipway as this is better angled to recover your boat-but only use it if you've got a decent car or hire van!!

Below is a sketch of the site, which is approximate. Let me know if you find it useful or have any comments on it.
